Following the Manchurian Incident of 1931, Japanese consulates and immigrant leaders in the United States embarked on a campaign of “people’s diplomacy” (kokumin gaiko) aimed at converting overseas Japanese into popular diplomats for the Empire. Throughout the 1930s, Japanese-language film distributors in the United States linked themselves to the people’s diplomacy campaign by arguing that film could serve as a means to educate American-born Nisei about the history, culture, and foreign policies of the motherland. Thus informed and mobilized, Nisei could become effective advocates for Japan abroad. Young Nisei women, in particular, were seen as key figures in the people’s diplomacy campaigns. If Japanese film could win the hearts and minds of Nisei women, these women could in turn, win the hearts and minds of the American public.

on one of the muppet tv shows, there’s a pig character who’s a parody of baywatch-era pamela anderson, which means that she’s basically a pig muppet with huge cleavage. one of the episodes I remember seeing as a kid was a parody of the movie speed, where if the ratings drop too low the building blows up, so they have the cleavage pig dance on stage in a bikini and the ratings go through the roof
“sexy” muppets are, for better or worse, an integral part of the muppet universe. realizing, as an adult, that this part exists, is, well, weird

The parents of a Grant County boy who authorities have accused of first-degree sexual assault for playing doctor with a 5-year-old girlwhen he was 6 years old have filed a federal lawsuit against the county’s district attorney, a social worker and a former Sheriff’s Office investigator.
Apparently, according to how this six year old boy was charged, should he be convicted, he will become a registered sex offender at age 18.
